The Courage to Face Tomorrow

By Apostle Joseph Hobbs, Th.D.
Ps 44:17-18

Ps 44:17-18

"All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way;" (KJV)

"This is the way to cultivate courage: First, by standing firm on some conscientious principle, some law of duty. Next, by being faithful to truth and right on small occasions and common events. Third, by trusting God for help and power."-J.F. Clarke

Greetings fellow co-laborers in the name of Jesus Christ who is our very present help in a time of need. I share with you again around the theme of courage to encourage or strengthen you in the midst of these difficult and often disconcerting times. Truly the ability to stand and to withstand the pressures of life comes from a life that is yielded and committed to God. Each of us will face temptations, tests, and trials in this life. The victory is in how we face them. The inward fortitude and conviction with which we face our tests or trials will determine victory or defeat.

The Bible teaches us that the Word of God is able to discern the thoughts and the intents of the heart. This suggests to each of us that the Word of God rightly applied to our life's situations and circumstances can give us victory over defeat every time. We are each challenged with holding firm to the Word in times of great difficulty and trial. It is the hidden Word committee to the heart that will rise up to strengthen us in the midst of the trial. This means that I must faithfully commit my heart to the Word of God daily allowing its gentle streams of refreshment to sweep over my soul.

The word 'courage' literally means to have mental and morale strength to venture or persevere. However this courage only comes to us when it is reinforced by faith in the Word of god. It is our faith in the infallibility of God's Word that is a cure for a weakened heart. When we have faith in the Word of God we are assured of the availability of power that only God can provide. We can therefore courageously face our tomorrow because our confidence is in the one who gives us "clear shining after rain." Stand firm, Jesus is Lord of it all!
