Redeeming the Time for God

Col 4:5-6

Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be always with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. (KJV)

"When Charles E. Hummell was going into the ministry, a businessman gave him an excellent piece of advice. 'Be careful that the urgent doesn't crowd out the important.'" - The Tyranny of the Urgent

Greetings to all in the name of God who is the giver, and the sustainer of all life. I want to share with each of you the importance of how we use the time that God has allotted us on the earth. We often hear people say that there are not enough hours in the day. This is usually stated when an assignment or an appointment has been missed or delayed. But I have discovered some interesting things about the use of time. For example have you ever noticed that time never seems to be long enough when you are doing things that you love to do? Also it seems that time escapes us when we are in the fellowship of people that we love. So, then why is that our time spent with our God is hurried and rushed?

The Apostle Paul, admonishes us to walk in wisdom in the company of the unsaved. This means that we must allow the Holy Spirit to dictate the pace of our time as we live it out in service to God. The time that we have is not ours it belongs to God, He has given it to us for the purpose of bringing glory to Him in all that we do. The world needs to see us not as so busy making a living that we do not enjoy the lives that God has given us. The world needs to witness our poise and composure as we truly allow the Lord to order our steps.

To "redeem" the time means to ransom; to rescue from loss, or to improve an opportunity. God want each of us to enjoy the lives that He has given to us all the while never forgetting that there are others who do not have a relationship with Him which makes life worth living. True fulfillment in life only comes when we know and are living out the purpose that our Creator has planned for our lives. Solomon says, Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom." (Ps 90:12-NIV). Walking in wisdom is time improved upon.
